The Turkish “Turkovac” vaccine proves effective against the British Corona strain

Turkey announced, on Monday, that its local vaccine, "Turkovac" against the Corona virus, had proven effective against the British strain.   This came according to Professor Aykut Ozdarandli, the supervisor of the "Turkovac" vaccine project, in a press statement he made in Kayseri, central Turkey.   Ozdarandly explained that the experiments they conducted on mice proved the effectiveness of "Turkovac" against the British mutant of the Corona virus, by 100 percent.   He pointed out that work is also continuing to find out the effectiveness of the Turkish vaccine against the Indian "Delta" mutant.   With regard to when to start using the vaccine, Ozdarandli stressed the need to first reach a certain point in the third phase of experiments, and to note the differences between the groups receiving the vaccine from others.   He expressed his expectation that the "Turkovac" vaccine will be released for use by the end of this year.   A few days ago, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan said that his country was seeking "to obtain approval for the emergency use of the Turkovac vaccine as soon as possible and the transition to a large-scale vaccination with it."     The first phase of human trials of the vaccine began on November 5, 2020, while the first dose of the second phase was vaccinated on February 10, 2021, without side effects appearing on the volunteers.   The first phase was applied to 44 volunteers, while 150 volunteers participated in the second phase, before the start of the third phase last June.     Anadolu Agency Kayseri Published in 09.08.2021 17:05 Latest update in 09.08.2021 17:41
