Turkish calligrapher: The Turks made Arabic calligraphy one of the elements of their civilization

Veteran Turkish calligrapher, Turan Sevgili, said that the Turks developed Arabic calligraphy until it became one of the elements of their civilization, as a result of their close adherence to Islam and the language of the Noble Qur’an.   This came in an interview he gave to Anatolia, about his long artistic career that has existed for 55 years, and the artistic effects he presented during this period,   In addition to the importance of Arabic calligraphy in the progress of Islamic civilization throughout history.   Sevgili stated that the Turks have given great importance to Arabic calligraphy throughout history, based on the concept of serving the Noble Qur’an and their prevailing Islam,   Where the calligraphy gained new dimensions on their hand   He added that the Turks contributed to the development of the art of calligraphy significantly, through the upbringing of a large number of calligraphers.   He pointed out that the art of calligraphy enjoys order and discipline, and requires seriousness, determination and patience, pointing out that it also includes aspects of the art of painting and inscriptions.   He explained that the transition period from the Ottoman Empire to the Turkish Republic witnessed some apathy in the field of calligraphy, stressing that his teacher, the calligrapher Hamid Aytag,   He played the role of the bridge in transporting the line during that period, amid great difficulties.       Sevgili stressed the great role played by his teacher "Itaj" in the spread of calligraphy, as he had many students inside the country,   At the world level, he pointed out that Arabic calligraphy is receiving great interest from young people now, expressing his optimism for the future of calligraphy, due to the presence of capable young calligraphers in this regard.   He stressed that the art of Arabic calligraphy requires patience, intense work, strong determination, and great sacrifice, calling on young calligraphers to enjoy these advantages.   In the same regard, he added: "The Holy Qur'an urges Muslims to dedicate themselves to their work and to complete it in the fullest manner."   He said: "The concept that the art of calligraphy serves the Holy Qur'an and gives it a sacred aspect, which makes it a great motivation for calligraphers to work diligently and with greater interest."       He also pointed out that "the art of calligraphy has the advantage of working to obtain the satisfaction of God Almighty, as is the case in all other fields, and that God Almighty has implanted calligraphy and other similar arts in human beings."   The art of calligraphy has witnessed great progress throughout history, as most calligraphers took inspiration from the writings of the Holy Qur’an, and thus accomplished wonderful writings of verses from the Qur’an, prophetic hadiths, wisdom and famous lessons.   There is no doubt that the common old saying:   “The Qur’an was revealed in Mecca, it was read in Egypt, and it was written in Istanbul,” is the biggest evidence of the great development that the art of calligraphy has experienced in Turkey.       Istanbul/ İsmail Ozdemir/ Anatolia
